Greta Isaac’s fourth solo EP, ‘Dolly Zoom’, is vastly different from her previous work. Earlier this year, ‘Productive Pain’ bore a closer resemblance to the music of the collaborative indie group FIZZ—of which Greta was a part until its break-up in 2024—resulting in an EP that lacked much of the bohemian, alt-pop party girl vibe she had masterfully crafted in 2022’s electro-pop standout ‘I Think You’d Hate it Here’. While it wasn't bad by any means, it felt undeniably sluggish in comparison. In contrast, ‘Dolly Zoom’ bursts back onto the scene with high-energy pop, framing her earlier release as a mere interlude. Guided by its wild titular alter-ego, Greta’s frenetic vocals pulse through ‘00s electroclash, especially on the highlight ‘Soft Scoop Talking Dog’, an irresistible femme-fatale club anthem. ‘Dolly Zoom’, with all its sweet chaos, intensifies the experience, drawing inspiration from the industrial edge of fellow alt-pop innovator Ashnikko to broaden the Greta Isaac vision while certainly fulfilling the anticipation for her official debut.
