Kara-Lis Coverdale’s music inhabits a unique realm where classical structure intertwines with limitless experimentation. Utilizing modal harmonies alongside experimental electronics, Coverdale crafts pieces that are both intricately textured and emotionally impactful. Through albums such as ‘Aftertouches’, ‘Grafts’, and most recently ‘From Where You Came’, her first full-length release in eight years launched this May, Coverdale has delved into the relationship between acoustic and electronic sound with remarkable originality.
She now presents ‘A Series of Actions in a Sphere of Forever’, set to release on September 12th through Smalltown Supersound. The lead single, ‘Turning Multitudes’, slowly reveals meditative piano compositions. Composed and recorded during a winter in rural Ontario, the album pares down excessive layers to focus intimately on acoustic resonance. Coverdale draws inspiration from influences ranging from the late Renaissance to post-war minimalism. “This album explores harmony in space, viewing music as a contrast to silence,” Coverdale explains, “a silence that isn’t real.”
This release will be closely followed by ‘Changes In Air’ on November 21st, signifying a prolific phase for Coverdale. To support these releases, she will embark on a European tour this autumn, including her first UK shows in six years at Manchester’s White Hotel (September 30th) and London’s ICA (October 1st).
