Positive Energy Above All: An Interview with Jazzy

“I take pride in my roots, and honestly, I don't think I’ll ever leave.”

Jazzy, the Irish dance sensation, is committed to staying grounded despite her recent rise to prominence in the music scene. Over the last 18 months, her Afro-influenced house music has captivated club-goers, yet she remains connected to her working-class background in Dublin. She shares with CLASH, “I take pride in where I’m from, and to be honest, I can’t see myself leaving. I think it helps me appreciate how fortunate I am to be in this position. The people from my neighborhood wouldn’t allow anyone to get too arrogant!”

Born Yasmine Byrne, Jazzy began her clubbing journey as a teenager, partnering with a close friend to dive into electronic music. Reflecting on her past, she remembers a pivotal night at the Ark in Dublin, featuring Amine Edge & DANCE, as a transformative moment. Having been trained as a classical violinist, she brought her melodic skills into the studio, leading to her success.

“The Irish house sound is quite unique,” she remarks, mentioning artists like Bissett, Belters Only, and CamrinWatsin as significant influences on her both artistically and personally. “For me, my sound originates from home. I just aim to do my own thing within that genre.”

‘No Bad Vibes’ released in 2024 marked a turning point, emphasizing her vibrant personality. “I’m really proud of that project,” she states. “It’s all about good vibes. That’s the message I wanted to convey with it—no bad vibes, just good vibes all around.”

The release featured an uplifting collaboration with KILIMANJARO, and Jazzy has also partnered with prominent artists like Sonny Fodera and Rossi, among others. For her, collaboration is about personality as much as technical ability. “There’s no formula to it, as far as I’m concerned,” she explains. “I’m open to all kinds of collaboration. Sometimes it might not resonate, while sometimes it creates magic. The specifics aren’t always crucial.”

When Jazzy initially gained attention, she was still working at her day job in the bakery section of her local supermarket. This summer marks a thrilling series of headlining performances at the iconic Ibiza venue Pacha—“that place is pure magic!”—along with many high-profile festival appearances, including Tomorrowland. Yet, she remains a down-to-earth girl from Dublin, pursuing her dream as a touring DJ and producer. “Essentially, I just focus on staying grounded,” she says simply. “One step at a time and take it day by day.”
