Dublin's Pillow Queens are back with ‘Be A Big Girl’, a powerful and urgent reclamation of strength. Released independently through Pillow Queen Records, the song was produced and mixed by Daniel Fox (Gilla Band, Sprints, Lambrini Girls) at Sonic Studios in Stoneybatter and mastered by Jamie Hyland (Mhaol, Gilla Band).
By turning the common saying on its head, Pillow Queens challenge the notion that “being a big girl” involves silence or keeping it together. Instead, they redefine strength as something that embraces vulnerability and refuses to be overlooked. The song captures the struggle between fatigue and determination, uncovering defiance in simply persisting.
Regarding the single, the band states, “For us, being a big girl means standing your ground when asked to leave, making a scene, and taking up more space while doing so.”
This release arrives at a pivotal time for the Dublin band. Over three acclaimed albums—‘In Waiting’ (2020), ‘Leave the Light On’ (2022), and ‘Name Your Sorrow’ (2024)—Pillow Queens have established themselves as a force known for emotional resonance and powerful anthems, with live performances that feel like a shared catharsis. Their ascent has been marked by critical praise, international attention, and a nomination for Irish Album of the Year.
‘Be A Big Girl’ is released as the band embarks on a significant European tour with US indie giants Lord Huron, performing to an audience totaling 50,000 in countries including Norway, Sweden, Germany, France, the UK, and beyond.
