Sharing their first new music since the debut album ‘So Medieval’ was released last year, London-based six-piece Blue Bendy has introduced their returning single ‘Poke’—an ambitious meditation filled with pop culture references, dealing with themes of guilt, stagnation, and Facebook best practices. This release comes after a turbulent period for the band, who nearly split up following their LP's launch. However, with new members and an enduring affinity for the witty, Blue Bendy is now focused on an upcoming tour this Autumn supporting Floodlights and Black Country, New Road, including a performance at their local iconic venue, Brixton Academy. Regarding ‘Poke,’ vocalist Arthur Nolan describes the song's lyrics as a blend of “terrible hedonistic tendencies” and “rural social reclusion.” He elaborates, stating: “but for me it’s just like any fetishized nostalgic romance pop song. Who started the rumor of my insanity, and is a Facebook poke still relevant ten years later? This pretty much encapsulates our last 18 months perfectly, maybe with a hint of irony.” Check out our previous interview with the band and watch the visualizer for ‘Poke’ below.
