For over 25 years and with eight studio albums, Hot Chip has continuously attracted fans to dance floors with hits like ‘Over & Over’ and ‘Ready For The Floor’. While some may recognize them from one of Peep Show's iconic moments, their extensive body of work stands strong on its own. Given their impressive discography, it's only fitting that the band releases Joy In Repetition, a comprehensive best-of collection including the new single ‘Devotion’.
The 15 tracks on this album highlight Hot Chip’s distinctive position in modern British pop music. It's an electrifying compilation that displays their range, featuring indie-disco anthems while also revealing various facets of the London-based group. ‘Ready For The Floor’ opens the celebration perfectly; it remains a favorite for a reason, still energizing fans and capturing the band at their best.

There’s hardly a weak track in this selection, reinforcing Hot Chip’s consistency and justifying this compilation’s celebration. Their sound has matured seamlessly, adapting to evolving music trends as they moved through the 00s, 2010s, and into the 20s. While the previously mentioned tracks still resonate powerfully, even songs like 2010’s ‘One Life Stand’ shine brightly and are hard to ignore. ‘Flutes’ adds a euphoric seven minutes that passes by in no time.
Instead of feeling like an afterthought, ‘Devotion’ deserves its place in this collection, aligning well with the band’s strongest material and showcasing their growth over the last 25 years. It offers an exhilarating preview of their sound in 2025 and hints at their future direction.
‘Joy In Repetition’ presents a delightful compilation of Hot Chip’s work over more than two decades, blending popular hits and deeper tracks. Devoted fans are sure to embrace this release, but even newcomers unsure of where to start with the band’s catalog will find this selection to be a solid choice. While many greatest hits albums can come off as mere financial grabs, this collection serves as a reminder of what initially captured fans’ hearts with Hot Chip. If you're looking for an album filled with synth-driven dance tracks, this one certainly delivers.
8/10
