On the eve of Notting Hill Carnival, Rivington Street in Shoreditch was buzzing as Bread and Butter introduced its new line of upcycled denim items in partnership with designer Milo Vogue. This eagerly awaited event was part of a lively Carnival pre-party at Bread and Butter, merging innovative sustainable fashion with a Caribbean-inspired celebration that stretched across three floors and lasted for 12 hours.
The showcase gathered local designers and artists in Shoreditch's renowned creative and community hub. Attendees filled the three-story Bread and Butter venue, creating an electrifying atmosphere.
The fashion show transformed the street outside Bread & Butter’s flagship shop into a runway, supported by one of the UK’s leading music publications, Clash Magazine, reinforcing its cultural significance at the crossroads of fashion, music, and community. All the showcased clothing items were upcycled creations by Mia Laila of the London-based brand Milo Vogue, constructed from 200 pairs of second-hand Carhartt jeans sourced by Bread and Butter. Other designers presenting their unique collections included Adam Reed, Kathryn Vintage, Max M-P, P-Lo Jeans, Ella’s World, Wonderound, Sheit Happens, and Bread and Butter’s own curated vintage pieces styled by Muckie Mara and Niko Vlahopulos.
“This went beyond a fashion show—it embodies culture, community, and the continuation of legacies, turning discarded items into narratives through clothing,” remarked Mia Laila of Milo Vogue.
The evening's Caribbean theme, honoring Carnival traditions, resonated in both the fashion and the ambiance.
Headliners Ray Keith and Riz la Teef energized the atmosphere alongside live acts from Kaya Fyah and Nayana AB, joined by a host of underground and emerging talents such as VIRTUO, Kio, and Jules.
On The Loft's top floor, a clandestine techno rave took place, hosted and curated by Luc from Matter of Time, featuring performances by Luc, Niki J, Tino, Simon Alfred, Teleopath, and Lucky Samurai, who also created a custom soundscape for the runway. The setting was smoky, dark, and sultry, creating a striking contrast to the vibrant energy of the performances below. Outside, where the street transformed into a large terrace, the atmosphere was lively, complemented by flavorful traditional Caribbean cuisine provided by restaurant Mama Ky to keep guests energized throughout the night.
The fashion show was expertly organized in collaboration with Malaya Productions, ensuring the event flowed seamlessly and producing exceptional content, while connecting all the involved creatives and guiding them to make the event a success. Time Shoreditch contributed hair styling, while make-up was refined by Shaniya Odulawa, finishing off the bold, sustainable styles of the evening.
With a full house of community members, trendsetters, and fashion enthusiasts, the event raised the standard for London’s Carnival weekend—a remarkable night filled with vibrant energy, striking fashion, and 12 hours of continuous music.
