Francis Of Delirium - Little Black Dress

Jana Bahrich returns, and her songwriting is - impressively - stronger than ever. ‘Little Black Dress’ is an exceptionally well-crafted song: punchy and engaging in its melodic guidance, yet just a touch unpredictable. Captivating vocal harmonies lead the charge, accompanied by rich, throbbing guitar, and the track soon establishes a rolling rhythm filled with grunge rock and cymbal-laden drumming. After a crescendo of rising chords and Jana’s powerful vocals elevates the song, a shimmering bridge section delivers an unexpected twist on the main theme - the kind of nuanced detail that sets Francis of Delirium apart from her contemporaries. (Phil Taylor)

      Etta Marcus - Teenage Messiah

Etta Marcus continues to unveil her ‘Devour’ era with ‘Teenage Messiah’, a track that feels both lush and volatile. Its cinematic quality combines moody atmospherics with a gothic energy that evolves into something urgent and electrifying. Marcus’ rich and commanding voice navigates the song through peaks of tension and release, balancing vulnerability with defiance. The outcome is a striking declaration of purpose: heavier, harsher, and unapologetically bold. ‘Teenage Messiah’ marks a fearless new chapter for one of South London’s most captivating voices. (Gemma Cockrell)

Dove Ellis - To The Sandals

Galway-born singer-songwriter Dove Ellis finally arrives on streaming platforms with a reimagined version of his debut single, ‘To the Sandals’. Described by Ellis as “reflections on a failing shotgun marriage in Cancún”, the track features the Irishman in a contemplative state, striking the guitar while singing in a soaring falsetto reminiscent of Thom Yorke from 1995. However, it’s not your typical indie ballad. The drumming is jarring and the saxophone weeps as Ellis and his collaborators transform the song into a beautiful, experimental gem that even later Talk Talk would have endorsed. Can we have an LP, please? (Attila Peter)

      Shelf Lives - like heR

After spending the past few years imprinting their distinctive style on underground electro-punk with a series of high-energy EPs, the dynamic duo Shelf Lives returns with 'like heR' - a track that seamlessly transitions from scuzzy synths to explosive guitars (and back again) over its three-minute duration. It offers a satisfyingly lo-fi exploration of the delicate balance between jealousy, admiration, and obsession, making it a comeback track likely to inspire all of these emotions.

      Truthpaste - Bleary Eyes

Blending art-pop composition with a chamber folk aesthetic, Truthpaste re-emerges with their dreamy and garden-like single ‘Bleary Eyes’. Delicate acoustic guitars cascade over soaring violins while bass harmonics resonate atop gentle, obscured percussion. The track rises with a contemporary post-rock flourish reminiscent of caroline or Racing Mount Pleasant, with lead vocal lines that are breathtaking in their emotional depth and sensitivity, elevating and intoxicating simultaneously. Fusing the sonic realms of Richard Dawson, Songs: Ohia, and The Books, Truthpaste creates an aura of sentimentality and authenticity, all while teeming with promise and potential. (A. L. Noonan)
