“The aim of any performance is to engage with everyone in the audience” - Gurriers share their thoughts on live shows, their first album, and the new single ‘Erasure’.

It’s been nearly a year since the release of ‘Come And See.’ How do you feel about the album after this time? Has your connection to the songs evolved at all? Are you already eager to move on to the next phase? I take great pride in our debut album, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported us from the start and those who joined us along the way. I’m not usually one to boast, but we self-released the album independently, choosing to forgo any label support or structure, which made things difficult at times, particularly financially. However, after a year of relentless touring worldwide, I can confidently say that it has paid off immensely. We owe our management and the entire team a huge thanks for their wise counsel in making tough decisions early on and showing us that it's possible to navigate this ruthless industry on our own terms and succeed. A big shoutout and heartfelt appreciation to our former members Jesse Donnelly and Emmet White, who both left a significant impact on the band, the music, and us as individuals. Alex Greaves, who produced and mixed the album, was also crucial in guiding us to become the band we are today, never settling for anything less than our best. The songs we create are like our own children; it’s hard to choose favorites, but sometimes we do. In hindsight, it’s easy to say we should have done this or that with a song, but after its release, the album is no longer solely ours, and we have to acknowledge that we made the best decisions possible with the skills we had at the time. While I am very proud of ‘Come And See,’ I know we are all eager to embark on a new chapter soon, broadening the band’s sound and scope.

Speaking of new chapters, you’ve just released your new single ‘Erasure’! Can you share a bit about how the song came to be? What themes were you looking to explore in this track? Sonically, we aimed to delve deeper into the influence of dance and electronic music while ensuring it stayed true to our essence. We are also big fans of The Strokes, LCD Soundsystem, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and pretty much all the gritty, edgy NYC bands from the early 2000s that had a sexy rhythm to dance to. Those bands, along with many others, played a significant role in helping us integrate these dance elements into something that felt authentic within the framework of a loud, scrappy rock band.

Do you think ‘Erasure’ reflects the sonic direction the band will take moving forward, or is there more to come? Is there additional new music on the way? I believe ‘Erasure’ captures our ongoing evolution toward becoming the band we’ve always aspired to be. Like our first album, the next one will encompass a diverse range of influences and sounds but will be more focused, confident, and mature in our songwriting.

And this weekend, you’ll be performing at the SON Estrella Galicia Soundhood event in Hackney! How are you feeling about the show, and what can the fortunate ticket holders expect? A great fucking time.
