Dublin Risers iNNUENDO Unleash Art-Pop Excitement with 'Rosemary'

The Dublin band iNNUENDO has returned with a new single titled ‘Rosemary’.

This art-pop quartet made their entrance last year with the EP ‘On Occasion,’ which was released almost exactly a year ago. Since then, iNNUENDO has garnered acclaim both domestically and internationally, playing a series of live performances before returning to the studio.

‘Rosemary’ signifies their comeback. It’s a vibrant art-pop track that evokes the sounds of Talking Heads and XTC with its precise use of melody and clever lyrics, while the upbeat dance rhythm draws inspiration from Franz Ferdinand.

The song is enjoyable yet has an underlying bitterness, as the lyrics focus on a painful experience with a piano teacher, later broadening out to give ‘Rosemary’ a more universal significance.

Regarding the single, the band shared: “‘Rosemary’ was inspired by a previous piano teacher of one of our members, who treated him poorly. I started experimenting with piano motifs, and the song came together quite quickly, especially after we developed the sharp synth line following the first chorus – that truly solidified the danceable groove beneath it.

Lyrically, it addresses the pain of resentment and disappointment when a close friend betrays you, talking behind your back and leaving you in shock. Everyone has faced such betrayal, and the song is about cutting out those negative influences and moving into a better space – ‘a new world is coming through, the old is booted out with you.’

Recording it was a memorable experience: our head lecturer caught us playing it in the college practice rooms and offered us free studio time, believing the concept was too valuable to waste. We recorded it in our college studio with a similar sense of spontaneity – it’s lively, playful, and bold, like shaking off negativity and stepping into a brighter future.
