Mick Jenkins and EMIL have collaborated on their new album, ‘A Murder Of Crows.’
The Chicago rapper has always had a keen sense for production, with each project characterized by a distinct acoustic backdrop. Constantly pushing his boundaries, Mick Jenkins recently teamed up with UK producer EMIL, resulting in the unveiling of new dimensions in each other’s artistry.
Featuring guests like South London lyricist ENNY, the album ‘A Murder Of Crows’ showcases notable diversity, as Mick Jenkins actively seeks new influences.
Throughout his career, the Chicago rapper has consistently displayed remarkable versatility, and ‘A Murder Of Crows’ illustrates his quest for fresh motivation.
Mick explains, “The title draws inspiration from ancient folklore concerning crows. As scavengers, crows signify impending death when seen in large numbers. This notion was particularly prevalent during significant wars and battles, as flocks of crows would congregate to feed on the remains.”
He continues, “I appreciate the concept that we’re part of that murder. We’ve just witnessed a significant battle. A lot of what I explore in this project mirrors our culture's state during and following that turmoil.”
“Crows are exceptionally intelligent and vengeful. Farmers view them as nuisances, leading to their strategies for retaliation. Emil and I discussed embracing that attitude – our overall theme being ‘give me mine’ and ‘y’all got me messed up.’ Nonetheless, the essence of our emotions runs profound and in multiple directions.”
