In celebration of its 40th anniversary...
The Stone Roses' debut single will be re-released on vinyl for the first time this month.
Originally launched in 1985, ‘So Young’ and ‘Tell Me’ mark the earliest release from the legendary Manchester band, showcasing songs that lean more toward their goth-inspired youth rather than the fiery funk-infused indie-psych that would characterize their debut album.
Despite the band's infrequent returns to this period, this release represents a notable moment in pop history. As there have been no previous re-issues of ‘So Young’ and ‘Tell Me’, prices for the original pressing have soared, with one currently listed on Discogs for £350.
Fans will now have the chance to acquire a rare piece from the band’s discography. Thin Line (their original label) has collaborated with Vinyl Revival, a wonderful record shop and label based in Manchester, to release the band’s debut single officially for the first time since 1985.
The tracks were initially produced by Martin Hannett, a renowned producer known for shaping the early Factory Records sound and working on iconic albums by Joy Division, among others.
At this stage, the Stone Roses consisted of five members – the original lineup included Ian Brown, John Squire, Andy Couzens, Pete Garner (R.I.P.), and Alan ‘Reni’ Wren.
As an added incentive, 100% of the proceeds from the limited edition run of 1,500 raspberry vinyl copies will be donated to Young Lives vs Cancer and various other charities.
