A surreal, biting anthem...
Fast-emerging indie sensation My First Time has released their latest single, ‘Sippy Cup.’
The band has enjoyed an impressive year, starting with a packed performance at Brighton’s The Great Escape, marking the beginning of a summer filled with festival appearances.
Fresh off their BBC Radio 1 endorsed single ‘Body Bag,’ the Bristol-based group returns with an otherworldly electro-indie masterpiece.
Now available, ‘Sippy Cup’ reflects our contemporary difficulties, with powerful riffs crashing down as the vocals tell a story of over-promising and under-delivering.
Directed and edited by Cloe Morrison, the music video vividly brings the concept to life, featuring Tracksuit Man – a recurring character in the band’s narrative, both on and off the stage – lounging in a living room surrounded by the remnants of ennui.
Amidst empty beer bottles, disposable vapes, and takeout containers cluttering the scene, viewers are immersed in a realm of nihilistic escapism.
“As we follow a modern-day emperor of beer and disposable vape indulgence, we present the Sofa King with a sip from the golden chalice, pledging endless festivities, inflated confidence, and fleeting joy,” explains singer Isaac. “In this intoxicated state, there are no clear winners or losers. We examine the grim reality of escapism through these vices, as the main character becomes ensnared by a flawed system. Yet, alcohol provides an illusion of freedom, confidence, and boundless potential… all you need to do is sip from the golden chalice.”
