Thurston Moore Reveals the NOW JAZZ NOW Book

Concentrating on free jazz and improvisational recordings...

Thurston Moore is set to lead a new book titled NOW JAZZ NOW.

This upcoming volume will be published by Thurston Moore and Eva Prinz’s Ecstatic Peace Library, serving as a personal exploration of free jazz and similar freedom musics from 1960 to 1980.

It fundamentally addresses the rise of free jazz as an art form and its progression throughout the New York loft scene, European influences (and beyond). The complete title is NOW JAZZ NOW: 100 Essential Free Jazz & Improvisation Recordings [1960-80].

Currently available for pre-order, the book is scheduled for release on December 5th. Thurston Moore leads this project alongside musicians Mats Gustafsson, Neneh Cherry, and Joe McPhee.

The book features 277 pages filled with artwork, labels, sleeve notes, and reflections from collectors, providing a fresh perspective on the history of Free Jazz and Free Improvisation.

Check out some sample pages below, and you can pre-order the book here.

Releases on December 5, 2025. Pre-orders will be shipped during the week of December 8th from the US to ensure arrival in time for the Christmas holidays.
