'Eternity’s Pillars' b/w 'Raise the Chalice' & 'Reverential' marks Sunn O)))’s debut on the maxi 12” format for Sub Pop.
The release features three entirely new tracks crafted and performed by the renowned duo of Stephen O’Malley and Greg Anderson, co-produced by Sunn O))) and Brad Wood. The recording took place at Bear Creek Studios in Woodinville and Sea Grass in Los Angeles in 2025. These tracks represent the first official studio recordings by Sunn O))) featuring solely the original core duo on heavily-drenched electric guitars and synthesis.
Sunn O))) meticulously focused on every detail during the recording, including tone, saturation levels, gain stages, speaker choices, arrangements, and harmonics, guided by the Pacific Northwest forest.
'Eternity’s Pillars' is named after the mid-1980s television show created and hosted by jazz pioneer and spiritual guide Alice Coltrane Turiyasangitananda, which highlighted her unwavering belief in music's power to achieve spiritual transcendence. 'Raise the Chalice' takes its name from a rallying cry often expressed by Northwest legend Ron Guardipee throughout the mid-1990s. 'Reverential' pays homage and loud tribute to those who have carried the heaviest burdens before us, using music and art as the mediums of an antiphon.
The front cover of the maxi 12” features the duo in the woods northeast of Seattle, captured by Charles Peterson.
