In contrast, ‘EUSEXUA’ has a light, meandering quality, with its tracks bubbling and fading away. Developed alongside the dancer’s upcoming 2024 performance art piece The Eleven, it engages both your mind and feelings. ‘Perfect Stranger’ brings back a vibrant retro pop vibe, while the erratic, clapping sounds of ‘Drums of Death’ evolve into glitchy, vibrant vocals and rhythms - reminiscent of something you might hear from 100 gecs, daine, or Frost Children. Throughout the album, her remarkable vocoder-enhanced vocals sound otherworldly as she builds over fragmented rhythms, affirming her status as a top-tier producer.
FKA twigs has always been recognized for her experimental approach. The success of her prior albums, 2014's ‘LP1’ and 2019's ‘MAGDALENE’, highlighted the London artist's limitless talent. On the heartfelt closing ballad ‘Wanderlust’, twigs shifts to a more tender tone, singing: “Album’s way too long though / I’d make it just the same / But with all the lyrics gone.” After guiding us through upbeat tracks, she now opens up, allowing listeners to connect deeply. This final song feels like a revelation, a credit roll to her heartfelt and potent performance. As the sparse composition unfolds, she offers fitting concluding lines: “It’s your choice to break or believe in it / I’ll be in my head if you need me.” One thing is certain: with ‘EUSEXUA’, FKA twigs has discovered her clarity.
