Opus Kink - I'm A Pretty Showboy
Opus Kink returns with ‘I’m A Pretty Showboy’ - a vibrant, surreal explosion of horn-driven punk-jazz chaos. Premiered by Steve Lamacq on BBC 6 Music, the track is a flamboyant and tightly wound uproar: a blend of theatre, menace, and rhythm. Angus Rogers delivers poetry filled with contempt and absurdity, accompanied by thunderous beats and wild brass. It’s chaotic, magnetic, and unmistakably Opus Kink, as their daring cabaret-punk vision becomes ever more captivating. (Gemma Cockrell)
Chiedu Oraka - Last Laugh
‘Last Laugh’ represents a declaration of victory from Hull’s Chiedu Oraka, arriving just in time for his aptly named new EP 'Undeniable.' Produced by the renowned team Dot Inc (Knucks, Ghetts, Giggs), the track radiates determination, combining sharp flows with Oraka’s well-known social commentary. It's a fierce response to skeptics, fueled by lived experiences and delivered with Northern grit. Having recently opened for Coldplay and claimed 'Best Newcomer' at the Northern Music Awards, ‘Last Laugh’ solidifies Oraka's status as one of the UK rap scene's most vital and urgent voices. The New Eves - Red Brick
Following their critically acclaimed debut LP, The New Eves return with a pair of singles, picking up right where they left off with ‘The New Eve Is Rising’. Recorded only a week post-album release, ‘Red Brick’ offers another mesmerizing track featuring a swirling rhythm section that leads to a frantic conclusion, along with the band’s hallmark howls. Listening feels as if The New Eves are conducting a séance to summon the spirits of The Velvet Underground and The Raincoats, with you beside Patti Smith, holding her hand – an altogether transcendent experience. Westside Cowboy - Don't Throw Rocks
Westside Cowboy celebrates their signing to Island Records imprint Adventure Recordings with 'Don’t Throw Rocks' - the evocative first single from their upcoming sophomore EP 'So Much Country ’Till We Get There'. Co-produced by Loren Humphrey (Arctic Monkeys, Lana Del Rey), the track is a slow-burning gem, steeped in golden-hour melancholy and enriched by layered vocal harmonies from Jimmy Murphy and Aoife Anson O’Connell. Hazy yet precise, it captures the band’s distinct ‘Britainicana’ sound with renewed clarity as they aim to establish themselves as one of the UK’s most crucial new acts. (Gemma Cockrell)
CATTY - Make You Love Me
The introduction of romantic strings in ‘Make You Love Me’ is typical of CATTY’s style: a splash of something unexpected to disrupt expectations. The following sound seems like the start of an upbeat contemporary pop track, grounded by a vibrant bassline – but just after the first verse, the song erupts into an intense, roaring chorus riddled with fierce guitars. CATTY’s vocals soar to incredible heights with an operatic fervor before providing moments of calm… and a massive conclusion. It’s dramatic, impressively wild, and nearly unforgettable. (Phil Taylor)
The Orchestra (For Now) - Deplore You/Farmers Market
Emerging seven-piece The Orchestra (For Now) continue to develop their self-described “London prog” sound with ‘Deplore You / Farmers Market’, the second single from their upcoming EP, ‘Plan 76’. The band describes the track as “an experiment in restraint,” as they pare down their usual densely layered instrumentation to gentle piano and beautiful strings – until they reach a point of unleashing chaos: the band erupts, and singer Joe Scarisbrick delivers guttural roars that will surprise you. Fittingly, ‘Plan 76’ is set to be released on Halloween. We’re in for a treat. (Attila Peter)
Iris Caltwait - Serpentine
Norwegian songwriter Iris Caltwait shines with her new single ‘Serpentine’, taken from her upcoming album 'Again, for the First Time'. Soft and muted guitar paired with innocent vocals hide the weight of the lyrics, as biblical imagery weaves through (think serpentine angels, Judas’s betrayal, and echoes of Adam and Eve). Reflections on being overwhelmed
Definitely worth the wait.
