The Youth Music Awards for this year were held last week, celebrating grassroots creativity at the Troxy venue in London.
This annual event continues to expand in both size and significance, with this year showcasing the largest ceremony to date. The Youth Music Awards took over the Troxy in East London, marking the end of months of preparation.
Hundreds of nominations were evaluated by a panel of industry professionals, including the production duo Bicep from Ninja Tune, UK music star Tinie Tempah, and radio hosts Jess Iszatt and Jodie Bryant.
Scheduled for October 16th, this year’s event was filled with figures from the music industry, featuring attendees like Dan Smith from Bastille, Sister Bliss, Sherelle, I.JORDAN, and author Yomi Adegoke.
Previous award winners, English Teacher, were honored with the Grassroots Hero Award this year. The band expressed their gratitude by saying:
“We want to express our heartfelt appreciation to Youth Music for this award and for their support throughout our unique and exciting journey. The projects funded by Youth Music, from which we’ve greatly benefited, require ongoing support to continue their crucial work and to keep creating opportunities for young people.”
JayaHadADream from Nottingham won two awards and also performed at the event; other award recipients included London-based Art Against Knives and Rightkeysonly from Wales.
Matt Griffiths, CEO of Youth Music, stated: “The Youth Music Awards serves as a powerful reminder of the creativity that emerges when young people are given the opportunity to express themselves. The artists and leaders we acknowledge tonight are helping shape the future of music from its foundation.”
“In a time when grassroots projects are facing a significant funding crisis, it’s crucial to showcase their impact. The vibrant energy, talent, and ambition present here highlight the importance of these spaces. I want to extend my warmest congratulations to all the winners tonight and to the remarkable artists who were nominated.”
