Puma Blue is set to release his new album ‘Croak Dream’ on February 6th.
Originally from South London, the songwriter is now deeply engaged in Atlanta's vibrant music scene. This Southern city provided the backdrop for his 2023 album ‘Holy Waters,’ which offered an immersive, trip-hop-inspired experience.
‘Croak Dream’ will be available on February 6th, and Puma Blue will return to the UK next Spring for a complete tour, including a performance at London’s Village Underground on May 28th.
His new track ‘Desire’ has already been released, showcasing the raw sound palette that Puma Blue is employing for the forthcoming album.
Reflecting on the song, he shares…
I didn’t have any microphones with me, so I embraced the unprocessed sound of my guitar recorded on my phone, without any amplification. I intended to re-record it later, but I found myself loving the visceral quality of the unplugged version, so I decided to keep it as is. This method sparked a desire for gritty and imperfect sounds to merge with something more ethereal and dreamlike.
I sometimes feel like my music has been quite reserved, and with this track, it felt necessary to be bold, to let it all out and be expressive. Many of my recent songs have begun in a solitary way, reaching for my guitar like I did in my childhood, akin to reconnecting with an old friend—just utilizing whatever limited resources I had available. I learned to play guitar on an electric as a teenager, and for years we didn’t have a guitar amp, so this felt like a full-circle moment for me.
Regarding the lyrics, I'm a lover inviting my partner to bed, yearning for what she desires. It’s essentially a love song, but layered with jungle breaks.
