corto.alto and anaiis join forces for their elegant new single ‘April’.
The two likely first met at a Theo Croker performance at the Barbican in London, where they were both invited by the headliners. corto.alto and anaiis hit it off and kept in touch, exchanging ideas via email.
Together in the studio to find their direction, the new single ‘April’ follows a string of releases from Scottish artist corto.alto, each showcasing his musical range.
Fresh off the release of her solo album ‘Devotion & the Black Divine’, anaiis is also on a creative streak, with her Brazil-influenced collaborative mini-album set to release in 2024, which remains a favorite for Clash.
Now available, ‘April’ features a gentle quality combined with clarity; every note feels intentional, and the jazz-inspired flexibility reflects the artistic freedom of both artists.
corto.alto states:
“I first encountered anaiis on a remix I was working on where she was involved, and I was captivated by the sincerity and depth of her voice. I instantly knew I wanted to collaborate on something for corto.alto. Earlier this year, we met in London one evening and created APRIL – a track that delves into themes we both resonate with deeply: grief, healing, and resilience. anaiis possesses a unique and powerful voice in music – soulful, fearless, and genuine. It was truly inspiring to work with her, and I’m immensely proud to share this collaboration.”
anaiis adds:
“It was amazing to connect with corto.alto on ‘APRIL’. After meeting at Theo Croker’s show at the Barbican, where we both played, we were eager to work together. This song embodies one of the core motivations behind my music: providing a space to process challenging moments in our lives, to feel supported, and crucially, to discover hope. His song title drew inspiration from a beautiful story he shared with me about life in Scotland."
