Blondie’s Debbie Harry has expressed her desire for Florence Pugh to portray her in a biographical film.

For over a decade, there has been talk of a movie about the singer's life, and with a recent influx of such projects—including a new biopic about Springsteen debuting tomorrow (October 23rd)—the idea appears to be moving forward.

Debbie Harry celebrated her 80th birthday this past summer and spoke with The Times to consider her life. When asked about the long-speculated biopic, she shared who she envisions playing her.

“I would be overjoyed if it were someone like Florence Pugh,” she said. “I think she’s an outstanding actress and capable of anything.”

The sentiment seems to be shared. In a 2020 conversation with Entertainment Weekly during the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Florence Pugh hinted that taking on the role of Debbie Harry would be a dream role for her.

There is certainly no shortage of content to draw from. Debbie Harry's memoir, Face It, received acclaim upon its release in 2019, and she endorsed the biopic idea back in 2014.

“It’s challenging. You can only touch on the surface. If it’s good entertainment, honest, and well-directed? Then maybe,” she remarked. “I believe many people could gain insights and a greater appreciation for the individual or the time period.”

Blondie is currently in the process of creating a new album and, unfortunately, lost Clem Burke earlier this year—the talented drummer passed away following a private struggle with cancer.
