Hemlocke Springs reveals information about their first album, 'The Apple Tree Under the Sea.'

Alt-pop up-and-comer and DIY Class of 2024 member hemlocke springs has revealed that her debut album, ‘the apple tree under the sea’, is set to be released on February 13th via AWAL. This album serves as a proper follow-up to her 2023 EP ‘going..going…GONE!’ and follows her performances as a supporting act for Conan Gray and Chappell Roan, where she played to audiences across the United States.

Elaborating on the album's concept—a narrative that follows the protagonist on a journey of self-discovery triggered by a red apple that unlocks knowledge—she stated: “I was raised in a very religious environment—Christianity plays a significant role in Nigerian culture and the Black community—and I was always obedient to my elders.

The album begins with a character traversing a desert, declaring, ‘I’m going to do your will.’ This could be directed at either God or a man, but then they encounter the apple. It’s about my experience being in a bubble and realizing that being part of that bubble was more challenging than I had anticipated, ultimately leading to my exploration of who I truly am.” Kicking off this new chapter is the single ‘head, shoulders, knees and ankles’, inspired by a nightmare hemlocke had about fending off an attacker, reflecting her struggle to embrace her authentic self.
