Jerkcurb from South London, also known as Jacob Read, has released another track from his upcoming album, ‘Night Fishing On A Calm Lake’. The introspective song, ‘Hungry’, serves as a heartfelt tribute to the process of healing from grief and finding a way to engage with the world again. This piece is influenced by Jacob’s personal journey following the death of his father, which occurred after he released his debut album, ‘Air Con Eden’, in 2019. The new album is set to drop next month, on November 28th, via Handsome Dad Records. “‘Hungry’ is a declaration to the world from deep within grief,” he shares regarding the song. “It's about wanting to emerge from hibernation and embrace life once more. I purchased a drum machine at a boot sale along with a new synth, and I composed this song rapidly. The lyrics are straightforward, but they stem from genuine emotion. Even though there’s a desire to rejoin the living, the grief remains. Grief functions as a social filtering mechanism. Friends you’ve known forever suddenly avoid you. As a result, you find yourself having profound conversations with strangers, shopkeepers, taxi drivers, librarians, and tube workers. London provides a great backdrop for that.” He adds, “Musically, this represents ego death. After moving back home, I was longing for the utopian sounds of my childhood, influenced by new age, techno, and sophistipop CDs left by my father. The sad bass tone reminiscent of ‘Take My Breath Away’. Artists like The Blue Nile, Kate Bush, and David Sylvian inspired me. It was the first time I became fascinated by synthesizers.” You can listen to ‘Hungry’ below. Here’s the tracklist for ‘Night Fishing On A Calm Lake’:
