The touring season is upon us, and we have another event to mark on your calendar! DIY is excited to be collaborating with international concert promoters Fifth Floor for a unique show in Bristol next year. Fifth Floor made their debut in 2013 with a secret warehouse performance by The Murlocs in their home city of Melbourne, Australia. Since then, they have gained recognition for their series of secret shows, which have taken place in the UK and Berlin, featuring acts like Fat White Family, Carl Barat & The Jackals, among others. After a five-year break due to the pandemic, they are making a formidable comeback, and we are thrilled to be a part of it. Their first show back—organized in partnership with Bristol’s own Death or Glory Promotions and Trust Artists—will feature local favorites Heavy Lungs on January 30, 2026. However, as with all secret shows, there’s a twist: you’ll need to purchase a ticket before you find out the location. To secure your chance to attend this highly sought-after event, visit Skiddle for your pre-sale ticket now. If you need further motivation to be there, we caught up with Danny Nedelko of the band to find out what they’ve been up to recently.
Hello, Danny! You’ve had quite a busy few months; how was your recent tour across the UK and Europe? What were the performances like? It was thrilling as we got to play in cities and even countries we had never visited before! It was very sweaty. You also performed in Bristol as part of the Down Stokes festival; how was that event? That show was a standout from the UK tour. It was great to see friends in the audience and to make new ones in a city we cherish deeply. What do you find most exciting about the current Bristol music scene? The incredible array of fantastic music being produced. Earlier this year, you released your second album, ‘Caviar’. How do you feel about it six months post-release? Do you think the album has taken on new meanings after being extensively performed on the road? I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished but also eager for more. MORE. I wouldn’t say new meanings have developed personally; that’s ultimately for the listeners to interpret through their own experiences. What was your mindset going into the creation of this latest album? Did you have a specific vision in mind for the follow-up to ‘All Gas No Brakes’, or was the process more exploratory? You always aim to produce your best work to date. As is often the case with us, much of the album came together at the last minute—haha. But I promise we’re getting better. It was recorded over ten “long and sweaty” days in Bristol; how do you think that environment and experience influenced the album's sound? How did the time constraint affect the process? "Long and sweaty"? It was actually recorded amidst the darkness and frost of February. I might need to let our copywriter go. Working with Dom Mitchinson at Humm Studios was a true homecoming; he recorded our very first EP and has become a vital part of our band dynamics. He is remarkable at his craft and brings out the best in us while managing four strong personalities, haha. The album addresses various lyrical themes, including longing for a better life and feelings of burnout. How did it feel to be so open and vulnerable about these themes? It seems like a universal sentiment for many people right now; have you noticed any particular reactions to these songs because of that? This is the most exposed I've been, and it was incredibly frightening. Nobody confides in me. You’ll be performing a very special show in Bristol with Fifth Floor next year; why should people attend? Everyone should come to that show because, honestly, nobody does it better than us. *drops mic, lights a cigarette*
