Andrew Jim Gannon Begins A New Chapter With ‘As The Years Roll Back’

A London-based artist encounters a turning point in his career...

Andrew Jim Gannon has released a new single titled ‘As The Years Roll Back.’

Now available, the song signifies a turning point for the artist as he transitions back to using his real name, after previously releasing a well-received album under the name On Man through Houndstooth.

‘As The Years Roll Back’ represents a departure from the past; it is a somber and reflective composition that embodies a distinctly Autumnal quality. The track echoes elements of Eno’s early 70s song-focused work, as the airy instrumentation imparts a profoundly human essence.

With a deeply introspective mood, ‘As The Years Roll Back’ emerges from a significant place in his artistic journey. Andrew Jim Gannon reflects...

“I kept revisiting the concept of the artist as confessor: themes of shame, self-representation, and a truth that’s slightly skewed; all intertwined in a form of performance. Those themes were present during the writing process. However, the song itself emerged during a rather bleak period where the idea of a middle-aged man earnestly documenting these intense emotions and transforming them into a song felt absurd. Embracing that absurdity, poking fun at myself, and allowing that silliness to exist strangely made the intense feelings seem more authentic.”

The release also includes a new music video, which showcases a tender quality. He elaborates:

“The awkward red gloves in the video have oddly become a surrogate for me visually: protective, somewhat silly, partially concealed, resembling a mask. Initially, the dog was uncertain about them, but the transition from hesitation to affection resonated with the song’s atmosphere and infused the video with its tenderness. By the end, we had formed a bond.”
