Next Wave: Fletchr Flechr

On an October afternoon, just prior to Fletchr Fletchr's soundcheck for Glasgow’s Tenement Trail Festival, Clash met with two band members, vocalist Rohan Fletcher, lead guitarist Adam Sanders (along with their manager, Jack) at Mono Cafe Bar and Venue, a popular indie-vegan spot in Glasgow.

While enjoying a vegan spice bag, they reflected on the previous night spent on the outskirts of Glasgow. “We went into a bar and ended up chatting with everyone, which seems to be a frequent event in Scotland,” they noted.

Rohan chuckled, “We were at a bar called the Shipyard, located just outside Glasgow in Clydebank. The bartender mentioned, ‘I actually work for BBC Introducing, I know who you guys are!’ We had an awesome time.”

As they prepared to perform later that afternoon at Glasgow’s St Luke’s, Rohan and Adam discussed their crowd-pleasing tracks. Rohan commented, “A smooth transition from our latest single, ‘Feel The Same’, into one of our other songs, ‘Passengers’. That moment is always a favorite to perform, as the crowd never anticipates the shift in beat, leading to a darker and more mysterious vibe. What else? People seem to enjoy ‘Life’.”

When discussing the idea of longer sets, Rohan contemplated, “For our longer, headline performances, we plan to include some slower songs. We have one called ‘Picking Up the Pieces’ that features just an acoustic guitar, with me singing alongside a saxophone.”

Adam chimed in, “When we’re all harmonizing, looking at each other and enjoying ourselves, that’s the moment that gives me goosebumps on stage.”

Regarding their single, ‘Feel The Same,’ Rohan shared, “It’s about expressing feelings and uniting. It provided a way for all of us in that space, including Jack, who writes with us, to address these issues without fear of discussion.

The message is universal for listeners, conveying that we all share similar feelings, allowing everyone to find something they can relate to. It’s quite beautiful.”

He emphasized the importance of not bottling up emotions, which only allows them to fester. Rohan and Adam elaborated on their writing experience for ‘Feel The Same.’ “To create the song, we secluded ourselves in a peculiar Airbnb in Wales for a week.

That setting and our communication fostered the inspiration. More often at gigs, we’re noticing how much people appreciate that song.”

The bond between Rohan and Adam is evidently strong, and it would likely radiate throughout Mono if the other band members, drummer Oli Williams and bassist George Green, were also present.

When asked about their dream collaboration, a poignant moment arose as Rohan reminisced about his late father. “I would love to be in a room with Paul McCartney.”

Referencing the 2021 Beatles documentary, Get Back, Adam remarked, “I didn’t see the entire thing, but your dad sat there for hours on end.”

Rohan recalled, “When we visited Hamburg, we performed at the venue where they did their residency to refine their skills. Walking into that green room was so emotional; I could imagine my dad would have enjoyed it.”

Adam continued to discuss the strength of the band's connections. “You can sense the bond when we’re on stage. I’m always glancing over at them, smiling.

It’s incredible to think we’ve been friends for 15 years, doing this amazing thing. That connection among band members draws everyone into this camaraderie.”

Rohan concurred, “I feel like our fans are gradually becoming our friends, and they engage with what’s happening on stage. There's nothing better than seeing a group of friends on stage, sharing laughs and having a great time.”
