The American band Prostitute has signed with Mute.
Hailing from Dearborn, MI, which has the largest Muslim population in the U.S., Prostitute merges sharp post-punk with a nearly hardcore intensity, delving into their shared experiences of growing up as Muslims in America.
The lyrics are crafted by Moe (the frontman) and Andrew (the drummer), with their debut album 'Attempted Martyr' examining various perspectives of those experiences.
Moe shares, “I went through an identity crisis; after 9/11, a wave of xenophobia and Arab animosity emerged. I despised being Arabic and felt hostility towards Arabs in general due to the way people treated me. For much of my 20s, I thought, ‘Why not become the stereotype you expect of me?’”
The band then embraced this concept, developing a philosophy around it, which they describe as ‘radical terrorism’ and a kind of fanatical zealotry.
‘Attempted Martyr’ had a limited release earlier this year, and now Prostitute has signed with Mute for a comprehensive worldwide launch.
Set to release on March 13th, the signing comes with the launch of a complete video for the intense album track ‘Mr. Dada’ –
