Reports indicate that Japanese bassist Tetsu Yamauchi has passed away.
This groundbreaking musician was among the first from Japan to significantly penetrate Western rock culture, notably stepping in for Andy Fraser in the British blues rock band Free.
Quickly gaining popularity, Tetsu was later invited to join The Faces, taking over for Ronnie Lane in the process.

Respected by his colleagues, Tetsu Yamauchi had a background in jazz, and his undeniable technical abilities were complemented by a penchant for the hard-drinking rock lifestyle that matched that of his British and American counterparts.
He played on several classic albums but retreated from the public eye in the 1990s, becoming a somewhat mysterious figure. He declined an invitation to participate in the Faces’ reunion shows, and his friend Alan Merrill informed the media that the bassist was living a quiet, religious life in rural Japan.
Simon Kirke, a member of Free who had known Tetsu for 60 years, confirmed the news on social media: "Just heard that Tetsu passed away. He was a good friend and a great bass player. My condolences to his family and close friends. May he rest in peace."
