That’s Life, Baby! – Foley
I sense a pattern every time
It's nearly midnight (oh baby)
You want to see me,
You’re so desperate on the sidelines
(oh baby)
I haven't been yours for months
Left you at rock bottom, baby
I can’t be responsible if you catch a chill.
Atwood Magazine is excited to premiere “Fever,” the fourth single from Foley’s eagerly awaited sophomore album, That’s Life, Baby! (set for independent release on February 28th, 2025). Following their earlier releases “Heartstrings,” “Unstable,” and “Low and High,” “Fever” showcases the indie pop duo of Ash Wallace and Gabriel Everett excelling at channeling intense, relatable emotions into bold beats and danceable melodies.
A previous Atwood Magazine Editor’s Pick, Foley has been captivating audiences since their debut eight years ago. “With a sound that straddles the line between Oh Wonder and Fickle Friends’ indie pop charm and the buoyant electronics of Kygo or Flume, Foley aims to get listeners to dance through the best and worst times,” I noted back in 2018.

While this is perhaps their most significant venture into disco territory, “Fever” retains the essence of a classic Foley track.
The lyrics tell a moving story of longing, yearning, and burning desire, while the music electrifies the senses and invigorates the soul. Focused on the passionate feelings of unreturned love—and the irresistible allure of a fantastic disco beat—“Fever” cleverly resonates on multiple levels, offering a vibrant explosion of lively sound alongside a catchy singalong.
“In a way, it continues the narrative of a past love that lingers without resolution,” Foley reveals to Atwood Magazine. “It was inspired by a situation where a friend’s ex kept showing up at every party, every café, and seemed to be around every corner!”
Wallace and Everett reach a (pardon the pun) fever pitch with the song’s catchy and cathartic chorus:
See you burning up
Don’t want to see you suffer, baby
Can’t help it
You’ve still got fever, oh no
You still don’t believe it’s over
You’ve still got fever, oh no
You still don’t think it’s done
You’ve still got fever

Though tension and heartbreak play a significant role in this track, it’s ultimately Foley’s upbeat spirit that prevails—challenging us not to smile as they create an atmosphere of musical warmth.
“‘Fever’ was crafted during a long weekend retreat to Auckland’s Waiheke Island,” Ash Wallace explains. “The songs produced during that weekend became the core of the album, and I think ‘Fever’ is a perfect representation of the spontaneity and enjoyment we were experiencing at that time.”
“At its essence, it’s the sister song to the album’s title track (‘That’s Life, Baby!’)—where an ex is constantly popping up wherever you go. It’s playful, cheeky, and filled with plenty of side-eye! We ensured that the production aligned with that vibe; experimenting with dramatic stops and punchy bass added weight to the lyrics.”
I see you dancing
And you’re watching me like it’s a horror film (so crazy)
Stop trying to hold me just to
Make the landing softer (oh baby)
You can take a hit
But can’t admit your heart is breaking
You act like it never will.
