Giift is poised to make significant strides in the music industry. As a songwriter, she has collaborated behind the scenes with major icons like Kehlani and Beyoncé. However, the South African-born, Copenhagen-based artist's own work serves as a sanctuary for bold songwriting that conveys raw and candid truths. Her new single ‘Pussy’ is an explicit pop anthem, demonstrating a willingness to break boundaries; her upcoming EP ‘Desire’ promises to take this even further with a series of provocative and boundary-pushing tracks.
“Music has always been a part of my life since I was young. My dad would play the saxophone and listen to jazz, so singing and playing music was a constant in our home,” she shares with CLASH. “I began writing for myself when I was around 15, and received Logic Pro X as a birthday gift. Initially, my songs were created from beats I found online or short guitar pieces.”
Despite being a newcomer with an impressive track record, Giift is fearless—transitioning from a sought-after studio vocalist to a leading artist feels natural to her. “When I write for myself, I can delve into musical aspects that I may not explore when writing for others. I gain valuable insights from collaborating with others, particularly since I usually create my music independently. So when I return to my own projects, I’m brimming with ideas to express.”
Giift was among the standout performers at the prominent Dutch music festival Eurosonic in January, and she has since launched her compelling single ‘Pussy’. “I want my music to mirror my life experiences. As I grow older, I aim for my music to evolve alongside me. ‘Pussy’ represents my ability to create beyond just love songs.”
Entirely written and produced by herself, ‘Pussy’ is truly a product of Giift's artistic vision. Reflecting on the creation of the song, she notes that it “almost emerged unexpectedly. I had an EP that I was satisfied with, but I still felt the urge to create new music. After producing ‘Pussy’, it inspired me to craft two entirely new tracks, which ultimately shaped the EP as it stands now.”
With the upcoming EP ‘Desire’ set to showcase her vibrant personality in an unabashed manner, Giift will perform at the London showcase Soho Calling for an intimate evening in the city. “You can expect a lively and colorful performance that resonates with everyone. I adore playing in the UK and hope that my passion is evident in my performance. There’s a lot of emotion in my songs, and I want the audience to connect with that.”
Looking towards the future, Giift is full of ambition—eager to achieve pop excellence with every opportunity. She seeks more collaborative sessions, additional releases, and more live performances. “I anticipate 2025 being a year where I push my boundaries as both an artist and a songwriter. I want to play live more often and demonstrate consistency with my own projects. I also hope to connect more with those who support me and listen to my music.”
