Canadian indie rock band PUP is set to release their new album ‘Who Will Look After The Dogs?’ on May 2nd.
After completing their commitments for their last album, aptly titled ‘The Unravelling Of PUPTHEBAND’, the hard-touring group returned home only to discover that ‘home’ was in disarray. With his emotions in turmoil, songwriter Stefan Babcock turned back to music as a source of solace.
The upcoming album ‘Who Will Look After The Dogs?’ is the outcome of this process. It was recorded in Los Angeles over three weeks with producer John Congleton.
The lead single ‘Hallways’ has been released, showcasing a direct, powerful, and emotionally open style of songwriting.
“Shortly after we announced our last album, coincidentally called The Unraveling of PUPTHEBAND, my life fell apart unexpectedly. I wrote the lyrics for ‘Hallways’ during that chaotic period. It was a strange week,” Babcock shares.
“The title of our new album, Who Will Look After The Dogs?, was the first thing I wrote for it. I find it devastating, but also in a ‘holy shit this is over the top’ sort of way. Especially in relation to the preceding line. It strikes us as humorous. The exaggerated things we all say during dark times can seem hilarious once we recover a little. I’m not sure if others find it funny, but sometimes you have to laugh at yourself. It’s the only way to escape the darkness. Trust me.”
Tune in now.
