The Glasgow-based band Cloth will launch their new album ‘Pink Silence’ on April 25th.
The group's minimalist approach has garnered them a dedicated following, with sibling duo Rachael and Paul Swinton creating a distinctive body of work.
Collaborating with prominent label Rock Action, the upcoming album ‘Pink Silence’ is set to arrive this Spring. Slated for release on April 25th, the album stems from their close creative partnership, enhanced by contributions from Portishead’s Adrian Utley, Owen Pallett, and Mogwai’s Stuart Braithwaite.
In a statement, Cloth expresses…
“The concept of pink silence evokes the early morning or late evening, when a peculiar ethereal light manifests in the sky. This can signify one of two feelings; a blissful serenity or an unsettling sense of foreboding. We were captivated by the notion that something so natural, beautiful, and omnipresent could possess such a profound duality.”
The new single ‘Golden’ is available now, featuring a mesmerizing blend of drone-heavy indie pop that is both experimental and charmingly melodic.
Paul Swinton shares thoughts on the new single…
"I recall crafting the main guitar hook for the chorus, with Rachael adding chord support, and I mentioned to her that ‘this song needs to echo Talking Heads!’ Though that initial direction may have shifted as we progressed, it remains one of the most musically vibrant tracks on the album, highlighted by a lively hi-hat-driven beat in the chorus and a bridge that might just be my favorite of any Cloth song.”
The song addresses the painful end of a relationship, conveying the struggle of reconciling that loss with the sentiment of wishing they had never fallen in love. There’s a line in the song, ‘that scar on my wall, where all of those photographs remembered us falling,’ which originated from my contemplation of my bedroom wall and noticing the faint outlines—the ‘scars’—where once significant photos were displayed. To me, that felt like a powerful image, even though, in essence, there’s nothing left to view anymore.
Tune in now.
