The Open Flames Release Indie Rock Gem ‘Same Time Next Year’

The Open Flames are back with their new track ‘Same Time Next Year.’

This London quartet arrives with a wealth of experience, as each member has an impressive background. However, in this project, they set aside their pasts to pursue something different and refreshing.

A full album is on the way, showcasing their evolution – once friends in high school, the musicians pursued individual paths before reconnecting later in life.

The band serves as a means for this friendship to redefine itself, with their songwriting heavily influenced by classic indie rock – think of early R.E.M. or more melodic PIXIES for a close comparison.

Based in and around Camden, this North London group also has a theatrical aspect, embodying characters within their lyrics; in this regard, their work echoes the style of The Lemon Twigs.

Singer and guitarist David Eastman crafts lyrical stories that he and co-vocalist Paige Brubeck expand upon, with the new single ‘Same Time Next Year’ exemplifying this approach.

Featuring a smooth tone and sharp execution, it’s a vibrant indie rock gem that feels confident in its identity while still exploring new ideas.

“This album represents our journey of growing together as a band,” Sult explains. “It began with a rekindled friendship. Since our lives took different directions in high school, David has traveled to various parts of the world, experiencing life in both developing and affluent countries."

“I’ve gone through major and indie labels, living a rock and artistic lifestyle across the US with Paige. But David is the one who initially inspired me to make music. So when he sent me a song that I knew how to enhance, it felt like we could finally collaborate effectively. The title reflects how we managed to create this, meeting in a studio in Camden Town whenever we found the time.”
