Brooklyn noise-pop duo Sleigh Bells has announced the release of a brand new album! Their sixth full-length record, titled ‘Bunky Becky Birthday Boy,’ will be available on April 4th via Mom+Pop, four years after the release of 2021's ‘TEXIS.’ The band, consisting of vocalist Alexis Krauss and producer/guitarist Derek Miller, made their comeback late last month with the energetic single ‘Wanna Start A Band?’ and have now released the album's opening track, ‘Bunky Pop.’ According to Derek, “We wanted the track to evoke the feeling of a dog having the best moment of her life without any self-consciousness.” He added that “‘Bunky Pop’ shaped the entire record, and Bunky Becky became a character interwoven throughout each song. We decided to introduce her friend, Roxette Ric, allowing us to blend elements of autobiography and fiction.”
The album will feature eleven tracks and has a somewhat conceptual theme, reflecting aspects of the band’s own experiences. The title is loosely inspired by Alexis' dog’s nickname, who unfortunately passed away a few years ago. “‘Bunky Becky’ was a nickname for Alexis’ dog Riz, who died in December 2023. After her passing, Alexis and I discussed creating an anthem for her,” Derek explains. “Then Alexis’ son Wilder was born, making him the birthday boy. Although the title might sound a bit silly — and it’s perfectly fine to laugh — with some context, it represents life and death. We lost someone we loved, and we welcomed someone else we love.”
