In a world overshadowed by political strife and violent turmoil, it's vital to remember the significance of doing what you can to aid those in need. BRITs Week 25, presented by DHL in support of War Child, exemplifies this spirit. This week, Kasabian and Blossoms performed at the intimate O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London for a special one-off night of music, with all funds raised being directed to providing protection, education, mental health support, and assistance to individuals affected by war.
Celebrating unity through music, the night began with the Stockport quintet indie rock band, Blossoms, who graced the stage with their signature guitar-driven tracks, including ‘Charlemagne,’ ‘Your Girlfriend,’ and the recent favorite ‘Gary.’ Merging 1970s glam rock style with contemporary synth-infused melodies, the band, led by frontman Tom Ogden, embodies the delightful sounds of the UK’s brit-pop scene, blending nostalgic influences with modern sensibilities. Indeed, Blossoms are worthy headliners in their own right, making it a special moment to see them leave the stage as the renowned Kasabian prepared to take the spotlight.
Following a brief intermission, the legendary English rock band Kasabian was welcomed to the stage, starting with a Brit-inspired rendition of ‘Hey Jude’ and launching into their new song ‘Call.’ They electrified the crowd with classics such as ‘Club Foot,’ ‘You’re In Love With A Psycho,’ and ‘Underdog.’ The first twenty minutes alone demonstrated that great music endures through time. True to their reputation, the audience enjoyed a well-rounded mix of both newer and older tracks from their extensive discography since 2004, featuring an impressive setlist of nineteen songs across a one-and-a-half-hour performance.
Fueled by energy from new frontman Sergio Pizzorno, who even made his way into the stalls and balcony amidst the set, Kasabian delivered music that reverberated throughout the 2000-capacity venue. There’s a certain beauty in a room of diverse ages jumping enthusiastically, starting mosh pits, and tossing beer into the air— it exemplifies the essence of youth, being free-spirited and fully immersed in the moment. A surprise guest appearance by comedian and Bake Off co-host Noel Fielding added a humorous element to the night, which concluded with the arguably iconic track ‘Fire,’ igniting one last round of mosh pits amongst the audience.
It was an incredible night of music that vividly showcased how music can be a catalyst for change. War Child’s global mission is of immense significance, resonating not just with those affected by conflict but also with those who are distanced from it.
