Red Velvet’s SEULGI expands her solo artistry with the release of her new EP, ‘Accidentally On Purpose’, via SM Entertainment.
‘Accidentally On Purpose’ represents SEULGI’s first solo work in almost two and a half years, following her debut mini-album, ‘28 Reasons’. The six-track project is led by the single ‘Baby, Not Baby’, which draws inspiration from early 2000s pop. The song was produced by GRAMMY-nominated producer Erick Serna, known for his work on Olivia Rodrigo's ‘Guts’, with lyrics crafted by K-pop hitmaker KENZIE.
‘Baby, Not Baby’ introduces the duality present in SEULGI’s new chapter. The EP takes on a darker tone with ‘Better Dayz’, a moody alt-pop track that builds to a sudden electro-clash climax. This is contrasted by the bubblegum RnB vibe of ‘Rollin’ (With My Homies)’, and ‘Whatever’, a mellow mid-tempo song showcasing SEULGI’s delicate main vocals. The EP concludes with ‘Weakness’, a heartfelt love ballad co-written by SEULGI herself.
SEULGI, along with her Red Velvet band members IRENE and JOY, is scheduled to return to the UK for a performance at SMTOWN Live in London at Allianz Twickenham Stadium on June 28th. The grand concert, celebrating SM Entertainment’s 30th anniversary, will also feature other K-pop artists such as NCT 127, NCT DREAM, aespa, RIIZE, and more.
