With groovy basslines, electric riffs, and synths that evoke the sensation of strobe lights, ‘Obsession’ encapsulates THE DRIVER ERA's essence. This month, they release their fourth studio album, ‘Obsession’, a daring and expansive work that cements the duo's status as innovative artists.
Comprising brothers Rocky and Ross Lynch, THE DRIVER ERA has consistently embraced experimental soundscapes. While their previous albums ‘Girlfriend’ showcased intimate songwriting and ‘Summer Mixtape’ excelled at creating moods, ‘Obsession’ skillfully merges these qualities. The album incorporates elements of rock, electro-pop, and rich soundscapes, all while maintaining a reflective quality that navigates the realms of adventure and discovery.
Fresh off a successful tour across the UK and Europe, which included a sold-out performance at London’s Eventim Apollo, THE DRIVER ERA creates live experiences that feel like a celebration. Their high-energy shows have gained traction online, propelling them to become favorites on TikTok. ‘Obsession’ embodies this spirit, demonstrating how THE DRIVER ERA can revel in fun while also delving into the more vulnerable aspects of emotion and expression.
‘Obsession’ explores themes of fleeting infatuation alongside self-reflection; it is both sensual and sophisticated, as well as bold and timeless. For instance, a track like ‘Don’t Take The Night’ captures swift romances that end before they truly begin, while ‘Touch’ offers a seductive single defined by its pulsating basslines. Songs such as ‘Don’t Walk Away’, ‘Same Old Story’, and ‘I Can’t Believe She Got Away’ invite contemplation on deeper themes like desire, yearning, and genuine connection.
Moreover, songs like ‘I’d Rather Die’, ‘Everybody’s Lover’, and ‘Better’ reveal the band’s introspective side, commenting on societal interactions. THE DRIVER ERA has always embraced a fearless approach to their music, and ‘Obsession’ marks a significant step toward a self-assured artistic identity, making it their most introspective album to date.
