Passionate folk artist Brielle Brown offers a compelling anthem for resilience and renewal with her powerful single "Blessing." Despite what the title suggests, the term "blessing" is not found in the lyrics. Instead, the song delivers strength, comfort, and motivation during life's toughest challenges. Brown's verses express determination in the face of adversity, singing, “When the story breaks, you don’t cry / When the hands shake, you don’t cry / When you fall from grace, you don’t cry.” However, "Blessing" is not about remaining in darkness—it's a call to rise up. The music shifts towards light and healing, encouraging us to seek solace in unity. Driven by bluesy guitar riffs and powerful vocals, the track becomes a symbol of hope and illustrates the strength of perseverance.
Co-written with her husband, respected producer Marc Swersky (who has worked with Joe Cocker, Hilary Duff, and Natalie Cole), “Blessing” features on her upcoming album, In Art & Soil the Same—which insightfully examines the vital role of art and music in fostering personal and societal transformation (set to release later this year). At its heart, the album is a tribute to hope, healing, and resilience. Brown asserts that “art is a savior,” emphasizing that music is not a luxury but rather essential to human existence. “It’s something we cannot live without,” she reflects. Her songs, including previous notable tracks “She’s Come to Sing” and “Concrete Stars,” honor memory, legacy, and the future we aspire to create.
In In Art & Soil the Same, particularly in "Blessing," Brown incorporates the principles of the Witness Institute—a project established by Rabbi Dr. Ariel Burger and Elisha Wiesel, which continues the legacy of Elie Wiesel, Elisha’s father and Nobel Peace Prize winner. The Institute examines music and art as transformative tools. Brown’s music underscores the importance of personal reflection and collective action, reminding us that even in the bleakest times, love and hope can illuminate our path.
The album features an array of remarkable collaborators. A special bonus track of Don Henley’s classic “The Heart of the Matter” is included, along with “Get Back to the Garden,” which features The Carlile Family Band. Contributions from Michelle Moore and Anthony Almonte (of the E Street Band) enhance the album with their exceptional vocals and percussion. However, In Art & Soil the Same transcends its individual elements—it is a profound declaration of purpose.
Brown notes, “It’s about us and the narratives we share and commemorate that shape our lives. It’s the intricate connection between grief and suffering, the memories encapsulated in our bodies, and the essence of quiet strength. I crafted it with a deep desire to reconnect with an embodied self in this disembodied world. The songs serve as my offering, a vessel, and hopefully a bridge for you to tell your own story.”
