Future Utopia and Lava La Rue unite for their new single ‘The Pleasure Trap.’
Future Utopia is a project spearheaded by producer Fraser T. Smith, featuring a continuously changing lineup of collaborators. This fluid creative venture traverses genres from pop to R&B and afrobeats, all tied together by an exuberant joy in making music.
The upcoming EP ‘Memory Boy’ adjusts the knobs once again – scheduled for release later this year, it follows last year’s diverse full-length album ‘Django’s High.’
Currently available, ‘The Pleasure Trap’ showcases Future Utopia collaborating with Lava La Rue, with their sweet vocals beautifully complementing Smith’s production expertise.
This collaboration appears to have been in the making for quite some time, and the extended development gives ‘The Pleasure Trap’ an extra layer of significance.
Lava La Rue shares insights about the track: “On my first day in Fraser’s studio, he introduced me to this philosophical notion called The Pleasure Trap — that our basic instincts for comfort, safety, and reproduction still influence us, and how businesses leverage this to market unnecessary products to us. That idea inspired the song. I consistently look for ways to address social constructs that intrigue me while ensuring the song is delightful for casual listeners – and I believe this song achieves that wonderfully.”
Fraser adds: “I have been a long-time admirer of Lava and the Nine8 collective. I aimed for the vocals to be both minimal and powerful, and Lava brought some amazing melodic and lyrical concepts that infused a dreamy essence into the topline…”
