John Swinney Urges TRNSMT to Remove Kneecap

The Scottish First Minister is not satisfied...

Scotland’s First Minister, John Swinney, has urged the TRNSMT festival in Glasgow to exclude the Belfast rap group Kneecap from its lineup.

Kneecap has been in the spotlight internationally, particularly after their impressive performances at the Coachella festival in California, which drew large crowds. Their sets were streamed online, during which Kneecap expressed solidarity with Palestine and made a crude remark about Israel.

This has triggered discussions on both sides of the Atlantic, leading Sharon Osbourne to speak out against Kneecap and to call on US officials to revoke their visa.

Recently, the Daily Mail revealed footage from a London show in which Kneecap allegedly expressed support for Hamas—labelled a terrorist organization in the UK—and claimed that the “only good Tory MP is a dead one…”

Kneecap is scheduled to perform at TRNSMT—the largest music festival in Scotland—with SNP leader John Swinney demanding that the group be removed from the lineup.

Swinney stated that the band had “crossed the line” with their purported remarks and said it would be “unacceptable” for them to take the stage.

At the Scottish Trades Union Congress, when asked if Kneecap should perform at the Glasgow festival, he replied: “The language you've presented is completely and utterly unacceptable. There’s no way that is acceptable. It's beyond the pale.

“I find it incredibly challenging for a band like Kneecap to play at TRNSMT because I believe they have crossed a line.

“For me, it would be unacceptable for the band to perform on such a platform.”

TRNSMT has not made any comment regarding these statements.
