Sigma Collaborates With Dizzee Rascal and Coco on ‘R U Sleeping’

Continuing their effort to recreate a legacy from the ground up, Sigma presents an electrifying collaboration featuring grime artist Dizzee Rascal and Sheffield’s Coco in their new single ‘R U Sleeping.’

Launched under their recently formed independent label, Day Ones, the track showcases Dizzee and Coco in a competitive exchange, each offering their distinct lyrics over a dark, minimalist drum ’n’ bass rhythm that reflects Joe and Cam’s early experiences on the UK underground scene.

In a comment, Sigma expressed: “We’re thrilled to collaborate with one of our teenage idols for our new single – particularly under our own independent label. This is a truly surreal moment for both of us.”

With ‘R U Sleeping,’ Sigma merges an anthemic vocal hook with gritty, underground verses from two of the most revered artists in the genre. This release aligns with their impressive start to the year, including notable tracks like ‘Chargie’ with Scrufizzer and Jamakabi, ‘Chemicals’ featuring Mali-Koa, and ‘Superstylin’ with Danny Byrd and Basslayerz, which solidify their status within the drum ’n’ bass community.

For Sigma’s Joe, the new single marks the realization of a long-held aspiration. “We’ve wanted to collaborate with Diz for years!” he shares. “I think my first interaction was receiving his email about 15 years ago. I used to see him at raves in East London, so I knew he was into DnB. Eventually, Cam ran into him at a festival last summer, and we swapped contact information. I reached out to him, and he visited the studio the following week.”

“The track started with only a hook from Coco and he loved it. He mentioned that he usually prefers to take tracks away rather than record in the studio, but I eventually persuaded him to write in the studio – it was a late-night session, but we completed it in one go. The rest is history!”

Emerging from the major label system after a decade of success that characterized them as leading producers, the fast-paced journey under public scrutiny had somewhat obscured the duo’s original creative vision for the Sigma project.

In January, they announced a full reset and have since released some of the strongest music in their career. Day Ones represents both a label and a declaration of intent. With renewed passion that sparked their journey, the now-independent duo returned to the studio without limitations, driven by their love for drum ’n’ bass and a commitment to enjoying the creative process. The outcome? Tracks like ‘R U Sleeping,’ which blend exceptional talent like Dizzee Rascal and Coco with the duo’s underground roots, alongside a genuine promise of more to come.
