Sleep Token – Even in Arcadia

High-achieving and chart-topping, Sleep Token's list of significant accolades seems quite limited as they continue to create an aura of mystery around them.

Their latest studio album, 'Even In Arcadia', offers a captivating listening experience. It ventures into new genre territories while still encapsulating the essence of their existing work, showcasing their ability to introspect while also looking forward.

The album reveals a successful creative formula. While it may not reach unprecedented heights of greatness, it highlights new strengths that feel more satisfying and credible for a band navigating this crucial phase in their careers.

Crafted under the notion that true art requires time to shine, the seven-minute opener ‘Look to Windward’ perfectly embodies this philosophy. It transports listeners to an otherworldly realm where warm melodic tones gently draw them in, while an unsettling, haunting ambiance unfolds before a dramatic crescendo takes over.

With an R&B influence, ‘Past Self’ starts with a glockenspiel-like resonance and then propels the track forward with vibrant vocals and energetic rhythms. Each song presents a familiar yet unique pattern, contributing to a rich tapestry of variety.

A sweeping exploration of emotion and sound is executed with notable intricacy. Appropriately beginning with introspection, the electronic ballad-like ‘Dangerous’ provides a tranquil space before bursting into an engaging storm of energy.

Connecting all the songs is the emotive ‘Damocles’, characterized by its clear piano melodies and soulful calmness, leading to the climactic heavy piece ‘Infinite Baths’.

Sleep Token’s skill in crafting musical mystery remains fluid and consistent, with ‘Even In Arcadia’ exemplifying this. It stands out as a distinctive commercial and artistic asset, an innate quality that cannot be replicated. In this project, they elevate this signature trait to new heights with a refinement that is evident for all to see.
