Chartreuse has released a new single titled ‘I’m Losing It’.
The four-piece band from the Black Country returns with this track, which was inspired by a health crisis. Vocalist Hattie Wilson underwent significant surgery at the age of 29 and spent time recuperating, a time that subtly altered her artistic outlook.
Bringing fresh ideas to Iceland to collaborate with producer Sam Petts-Davies, the new single ‘I’m Losing It’ offers a beautifully crafted representation of tension and release.
The soft vocals ensure that every note has significance, highlighting Hattie’s lyrics and the emotions stemming from her experiences.
Offering a gentle yet compelling narrative, she shares about the song:
I had major surgery on my femur last December. I wrote this song shortly after learning about it.
The verses reflect my struggle with being trapped in my own thoughts; the idea of the surgery played on repeat in my mind for months. I was aware of how long the recovery process would be—it still continues—and it weighs heavily on me. I had numerous questions and questioned if I would be strong enough to essentially learn how to walk again. At that time, I couldn’t grasp how life carried on normally around me, and that frightened me.
The choruses express a form of self-inflicted guilt. I felt a persistent sense of guilt for needing considerable support during my recovery from my boyfriend, family, and friends. I felt like a burden... but these feelings were merely my distorted perception, and everyone around me has been overwhelmingly supportive and caring.
