Queens Of The Stone Age have announced their new film, Alive In The Catacombs.
This week, the band revived their social media presence by sharing a series of teasers. Fans started piecing together clues, speculating on whether Queens Of The Stone Age were gearing up for a new endeavor.
Indeed, they are – and this project is entirely distinctive.
In July 2024, the rock icons ventured into the Catacombs of Paris, an extensive 320km (200 miles) ossuary beneath the bustling French city.
Filmed by a dedicated crew, Queens Of The Stone Age performed a complete live concert deep underground. This may very well be their most intimate concert to date, as the band found themselves amid millions of human remains—“the largest audience we’ve ever played for,” remarks Joshua Homme.
The frontman further states: “If you want to be haunted, being surrounded by several million dead people is the place to do it. I’ve never felt more welcome in my life.”

Documented for the future, the new film Alive In The Catacombs showcases Queens Of The Stone Age in a raw and unrefined manner. The atmosphere of those spaces—if you could even call them spaces—permeates the final product, imparting an eerie quality.
Joshua Homme explains: “We’re so stripped down because that place is so stripped down, which leads to the music being so raw, which in turn makes the lyrics so basic… Attempting to rock out in that environment would be absurd. All those decisions were influenced by the space itself. That space controls everything; you follow the rules when you’re inside it.”
Produced by La Blogothèque and directed by Thomas Rames, Queens of The Stone Age: Alive In The Catacombs will be released on June 5th. To view it, you can pre-order for rental or purchase through qotsa.com, and on the release date, you'll gain exclusive access to behind-the-scenes content, along with full streaming and downloadable access. An audio-only version will be announced soon.
