During her recent tour across North America, Beth Gibbons visited NPR to record a Tiny Desk session. Accompanied by her current live band, they performed three songs from ‘Lives Outgrown’ – ‘Tell Me Who You Are Today’, ‘Floating On A Moment’, and ‘Reaching Out’ – along with ‘Mysteries’, the opening track from her 2002 collaboration with Rustin Man, ‘Out Of Season’.
Her performance is powerful, intimate, and at times astonishingly intense, showcasing material that has the ability to transcend the recordings.
Beth Gibbons is supported by Eoin Rooney (guitars, marching snare, backing vocals), Tom Herbert (bass, Fender VI, backing vocals), Sophie Hastings (drums, harmonium, backing vocals), Howard Jacobs (contrabass clarinet, vibraphone, timpani, baritone sax, flute, bombo, percussion, hammered guitar, backing vocals), Emma Smith (violin, clarinet, guitar, backing vocals), Richard Jones (viola, guitar, backing vocals), and Jason Hazeley (keyboards, Fender Rhodes, Theremin).
