Fans of electro-pop aficionados Metronomy might recognize the airy vocals of spill tab from her feature on their 2021 release, ‘Posse EP Volume 1’. Exploring the LA-based French-Korean artist’s back catalogue reveals a limitless, bilingual talent, effortlessly blending genres while mixing English and French lyrics in a sultry fashion. As this marks her debut album, it’s not surprising that spill tab, whose real name is Claire Chicha, has dedicated three years to perfecting the sound of ‘ANGIE’, carefully selecting her favorite tracks from that period. Collaborating with her close-knit network of partners, she has crafted what is arguably her boldest work to date. Using vintage synthesizers, analogue sounds, and her acquired production skills, ‘Adore Me’ offers a lovely slow exploration of post-relationship reevaluation, while ‘Hold Me’ presents a sensual, syncopated bossa nova vibe. Additionally, ‘Angie’ and ‘Pink Lemonade’ stand out as highlights of the album; the title track features a stunning build-up with soaring vocal harmonies and electrifying guitar solos, whereas ‘Pink Lemonade’ delves into some of the most surprising production choices on the album. ‘By Design’ similarly plays with tension, but its seemingly unusual elements—pitch-shifted vocals and glitchy lead lines—also contribute to some of the project’s most captivating moments.
