London pop star Mabel has announced her upcoming self-titled mixtape.
The singer is featured on the current issue of Clash magazine, where she engages in a candid interview discussing the challenges of fame and her desire for creative autonomy.
A series of successful singles has expanded Mabel’s artistic range, and she is now unveiling plans for a larger project.
The self-titled mixtape is set for release on July 25th through Polydor Records and will include nine tracks. Collaborators on the project include UK rap underground star Clavish, along with producers Oscar Scheller, Arthur Bean, and others.
She expresses…
This mixtape consists of all new music created over the past few months with some of my closest friends. It’s essential for me that this project reflects where I am at this moment, and I wanted to release it without too much second-guessing.
It captures a mixture of the genres and cultures that shape my identity, and I would describe it as beautifully organized chaos. It doesn’t need to make sense to everyone, and for the first time in a while, I feel like I’m being completely unfiltered. The music has both a simplicity and depth that I cherish; I wrote it quite spontaneously, but I later realized it’s somewhat of a toxic love letter to my decade in the industry.
Mabel is set to perform at SXSW London tonight (June 2nd) and has released her new single ‘January 19’ – written just a month before her birthday, it's a contemplative track that reflects on some of the challenges she's faced while reaffirming her instinctual need for control.
