Stormzy will star in the new short film Big Man.
The British rap star has always had an affinity for the visual arts, with his #MerkyFilms initiative engaging in various projects.
He had a minor role in the adaptation of Noughts & Crosses, a venture he supported financially through his #MerkyFilms team.
Now, he has unveiled plans for #Merky Films' inaugural project: Big Man. This short film was entirely filmed on the iPhone 16 Pro, produced in partnership with Apple and directed by Academy Award-winning Aneil Karia.
Stormzy will take on the leading role – a significant achievement for him – portraying Tenzman, a declining rapper who develops a relationship with two mischievous boys, Klevis and Tyrell, who unexpectedly enter his life.
Stormzy remarks…
I always say that music is my first love, but film is my second. #Merky Films is something I have been dreaming about for a long time – a platform for impactful British narratives and a dedicated space for fresh, unexpected art. It is a natural progression for all we do at #Merky – sharing our stories, highlighting important voices, and creating opportunities for those who need to be seen and heard.
I hope you enjoy our first project, Big Man, as much as we enjoyed creating it. For me, it embodies the joy, spirit, and fearless energy of youth – that sense of life being a grand adventure where the world is your playground. I hope it motivates you to dream bigger, live louder, and embrace that unapologetic energy that accompanies youth.
