Whitelands Channel's Political Resistance Regarding ‘Heat of the Summer’

      20 · 06 · 2025

Whitelands have released their powerful new single “Heat Of The Summer.”

Originating from London’s lo-fi underground scene, the band has seen their noise pop DIY aesthetics evolve into something more aligned with shoegaze. Their debut album, “Night-bound Eyes Are Bound To The Day,” released in 2024 through Sonic Cathedral, showcased the dedication of a band striving for strong individuality.

In a live setting, Whitelands presents a raw, almost hardcore vibe, which is captured in their new single “Heat Of The Summer.”

Imagine Swervedriver covering The Clash with a lyrical touch reminiscent of Spike Jonze, and you’d be close—its sharp political undertones align perfectly with the intense, high-energy sound.

“It addresses a community uniting to challenge a tyrant, whether that's at the city, town, or national level,” says vocalist Etienne Quartey-Papafio. “I was quite upset about Trump when I began writing it last summer, and the downfall of that CEO by Luigi Mangione motivated me to complete it. The Spike Lee film Do The Right Thing also inspired me—the heat symbolizes rising tensions.”
