NoMBe’s “Nu Lova” exudes a lingering heat that stays with you long after the last notes have faded—a rich, intoxicating warmth that resonates within and uplifts the spirit. It evokes that sensation you feel on a steamy evening beneath disco lights, as heartache transforms into new possibilities and the smile of a stranger feels like salvation. Released last fall as the lead single from Diáspora—his upcoming third album and a tribute to the Black musical legacy—“Nu Lova” serves as an exhalation, a celebration, a confrontation, and a revival.
This track marks a daring new path. “Nu Lova” is NoMBe’s initial dive into disco, and he embraces the genre with ease: sultry guitar melodies shimmer above an energetic beat as he revels in the thrill of newfound romance. The groove brings a sense of catharsis, the rhythm provides relief. The entire piece radiates like a summer sunset.
**Nu Lova – NoMBe**
Two lips and daffodils
By my window sill
And I love the scent I crave
New love, new hugs, no weeds
I pull out the thorns
And the breeze carries them away
To a distant place
Where they won't cause harm
And my heart remains warm
Like my grass in the sun
This rebound vibe is real and a journey
Only time will tell if it sticks or we break.
“Nu Lova” is about emerging from a relationship with a mindset that refuses to let it derail you,” NoMBe explains to Atwood Magazine. “It’s about saying, I’m not going to sulk around; I'm going to prepare myself, go out, and meet someone new. It paints a slightly upbeat and cheeky view of breakups, where you almost feel lighter.” That energy is palpable from the very first verse: “Two lips and daffodils by my windowsill… New love, new hugs, no weeds / I pull out the thorns and let the breeze take them away,” NoMBe sings, exchanging the old and overgrown for something fresh and liberated.
“My relationship when I wrote this had faded for a significant time, leading to all the flower and spring metaphors,” he adds.
At its core, “Nu Lova” is a rebound anthem, yet it’s adorned with glitter and shine—playful, soulful, and self-aware. He doesn’t shy away from the ephemeral or chaotic nature of post-breakup love; instead, he embraces it, welcoming the exhilaration that comes with quick infatuation and the comfort found in someone new. The story he narrates is one of liberation—shedding what once was and giving in to the present moment, however temporary it may be.
Seasons change, just believe,
Like lovers,
Like days of the week (baby)
Oooooh
Friday night you bid farewell,
But I dove
Straight into Saturday, falling in love again.
So let me introduce you to my
New, new, my new, new, new lover.
Let me introduce you to my
New new, brand new, babe, and lover.
His chorus, delivered in a stunning falsetto, is a particularly luminous element—soaring as he sings, “New, new, my new, new, new lover / Let me introduce you to my new new, brand new, babe and lover.” There’s a brightness in his voice—light, unburdened, effervescent—that encapsulates the buoyancy of those initial, electric feelings. The repetition feels celebratory and enchanting, a manifestation of the next chapter taking form. “Friday night you said goodbye / But I went straight into Saturday and fell in love again,” he sings, playful and self-aware. The heart moves on, whether we’re prepared or not.
“The irony of ‘Nu Lova’ is that the ‘new’ person I became infatuated with quickly turned into quite a chaotic situationship,” NoMBe admits. “When that fell apart, somehow the song evolved into being about my now-wife. It's curious how songs can continue to evolve in that manner.”
He vividly recalls the moment when the music
